Protecting an Original Version of Your Data

Remember, there's nothing worse than losing your data!

Before you begin any work with your data, even simple validity checks, be sure to save your original file in a safe place and use a master copy to do any work.

Here are some simple checks:

• Don't underestimate the chances of data loss.
• Never assume someone else backed up the data.
• Verify the data backup procedures in your office and make sure your data is scheduled to be backed up in its ORIGINAL format.
• Make a copy of the ORIGINAL version on to a CD or DVD if possible. Make sure the copy is kept in a safe place - even off-site if necessary.
